The DIY Craft Stores Dashboard in Power BI turns 500 craft-retail orders into five linked report pages, 15 KPI cards and 15 charts that are populated the moment you open the file. The sample model covers a full year of trading, January to December 2025, across 8 stores, 8 cities, 7 product categories, 6 product lines, 5 customer segments, 3 membership tiers and 4 sales channels. The figures in the shipped file read $108,668 total revenue, $33,392 gross profit, a 36.0% gross margin and a $186 average order value on 4,529 units. One-time payment, instant .pbix download, free lifetime updates, and the Excel source file ships alongside it so you can paste your own export straight over the sample rows.

Key Features of the DIY Craft Stores Dashboard in Power BI

  • Five report pages, one model – Overview, Sales Trend, Product Mix, Store Operations and Customers and Channels, plus a Get More Dashboards page.
  • 15 distinct KPIs across 20 cards – total revenue, gross profit, gross margin, average order value, total orders, units sold, average unit price, discount rate, completion rate, return rate, low stock lines, average stock on hand, online share, customer rating and workshop revenue.
  • Month-on-month deltas on every card – each tile carries its own MoM arrow against the prior month and a 12-point sparkline, so a 17.5% revenue jump or a 57.1% fall in returns is visible without opening a second visual.
  • Nine slicer fields – Date Range, Region, Product Category, Sales Channel, Store Name, Membership Tier, Product Line, Order Status and Customer Segment, five to a page and cross-filtering every visual on that page.
  • Workshop income modelled separately – class and workshop revenue is a column of its own, so you can see the $15,861 it contributed and which customer segments actually bought it.
  • Store scorecard with data bars – all 8 stores ranked on revenue, completion rate, return rate and average stock on hand in one table.
  • Stock cover built in – Stock On Hand and Reorder Point columns drive a Lines Below Reorder Point by Store chart and a low-stock KPI.
  • Margin at product-line level – a six-row Product Line Performance table with revenue, gross margin %, units and average unit price, sitting next to a Discount Rate by Product Line bar chart.
  • 500 sample rows, 21 columns – Sale ID, Sale Date, Store Name, City, Region, Product Category, Product Line, Sales Channel, Customer Segment, Membership Tier, Order Status, Units Sold, Unit Price, Gross Sales, Discount Amount, Cost of Goods, Shipping Cost, Workshop Revenue, Stock On Hand, Reorder Point and Customer Rating.
  • Editable theme and measures – every measure is written out in the model and every colour sits in the report theme, ready to rename or rebrand.

What Is Inside the Download

Who This Template Is For – and Who It Is Not For

A good fit if you run one craft shop or a small chain, already export orders to Excel or CSV, and want a management pack you can open on Monday morning without paying a BI consultant. It suits independent yarn, bead, paper and paint retailers, art-supply chains of up to about a dozen sites, and anyone whose shop runs paid workshops alongside product sales.

Not a good fit if you need live till integration, stock write-back to a POS, multi-currency consolidation or per-customer purchase history at transaction level. This is a reporting layer over an export, not an inventory or point-of-sale system, and it does not place orders or adjust stock. If you want a system that records the transactions in the first place, look at the Art Supply Store Management System Web App instead.

How to Use It

  1. Unzip the download and open the .pbix file in Power BI Desktop.
  2. Open Data.xlsx and replace the 500 sample rows with your own export, keeping the 21 column headers exactly as they are.
  3. In Power BI, use Transform data to repoint the source at your saved copy of the workbook, then choose Refresh.
  4. Set the Date Range slicer to the period you want and leave the other slicers on All for a full picture.
  5. Work down the pages: Overview for the headline, Sales Trend for direction, Product Mix for what earns its shelf space, Store Operations for fulfilment and stock, Customers and Channels for who is buying.
  6. Publish to the Power BI Service if you want the mobile app and a shareable link. Microsoft’s own Power BI Desktop getting started guide covers the publish step.

Real-World Use Cases

Maya, owner of a three-shop yarn and fabric group. She refreshes on the first of the month and goes straight to the Store Scorecard. When one branch shows a 13.9% return rate against an 8.2% group average, she has the conversation with that manager the same week rather than at the year-end review.

Devan, buyer for an eight-store craft chain. He lives on the Product Mix page. Seeing that Woodcraft and Models turns $10.3K of net sales into only $3.2K of gross profit while Paints and Art Supply returns $5.9K on $17.6K tells him where the next range review starts.

Priya, who runs weekend classes above her paper-craft shop. The Customers and Channels page shows Workshop Group customers producing $29.4K of revenue and $7.6K of workshop income, more than any other segment, which is the argument for putting on a second Saturday session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a paid Power BI licence?

No. Power BI Desktop is free and opens the .pbix file with every visual working. A Pro licence is only needed if you want to publish the report to the Power BI Service and share it with colleagues.

Can I use my own data?

Yes. Keep the 21 column headers in Data.xlsx, paste your rows underneath, repoint the query and refresh. Nothing in the report is hard-coded to the sample values.

How many rows can it handle?

The sample is 500 orders, but the model is a straight import and comfortably handles tens of thousands of rows on an ordinary laptop.

Is there an Excel version?

Yes. The DIY Craft Stores Dashboard in Excel covers the same topic with pivot tables and slicers if you would rather stay in Excel.

Does it track stock levels in real time?

No. Stock On Hand and Reorder Point are reported from whatever your export contains at the time of refresh. The DIY Craft Stores Dashboard in Power BI reads your data; it does not write back to a POS or stock system.

Can I rebrand the colours and logo?

Yes. The report theme is editable and the header image can be swapped for your own, the same way as any Power BI report.

What support is included?

A user manual PDF ships in the zip, free lifetime updates apply to this file, and email support is available for setup questions.
