The Shipping Dashboard in Google Sheets turns a flat shipment log into a five-page freight control panel you can hand to a client or a finance team the same afternoon. The sample file opens with 500 shipments, 8 carriers, 8 trade lanes, 8 hubs and 12 customers already loaded, so you immediately see $740,310 of freight spend, a 71.0% delivered rate and 12.3 average transit days without configuring anything. It is built on native Google Sheets pivot tables and slicers rather than a stack of helper formulas hidden behind the charts, which is why it stays responsive as your shipment log grows. Every sheet, pivot and chart is unlocked. NextGenTemplates publishes more than 1,400 Google Sheets templates; this one installs with a single Make a copy click, needs no add-ons or macros, and carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Key Features of the Shipping Dashboard in Google Sheets
- Five linked pages plus an instructions sheet – Overview, Carriers, Lanes, Customers, Search and a ten-step user guide, all reachable from a tab strip repeated at the top of every page.
- 16 KPI cards across the four analysis pages: total freight spend, total shipments, total weight, average cost per shipment, air and ocean spend, express shipments, average cost per kg, lanes served, average and longest transit days, delayed shipments, active customers, spend per customer, delivered shipments and return rate.
- 17 charts driven by pivot tables, including a carrier treemap, a transit-time histogram, a hub combo chart plotting spend against shipment count, and a shipped-weight versus freight-cost scatter.
- Page-level slicers – Month, Carrier and Mode on Overview; Carrier, Mode, Service Level and Month on Carriers; Lane, Origin Hub, Destination and Month on Lanes; Customer, Service Level, Status and Package Type on Customers. One click refilters every chart and pivot on that page.
- A right-hand sidebar on every analysis page – a snapshot block, a 12-month freight spend mini chart, a Top 5 table, a share bar list and an At a Glance panel.
- Shipment-level search – choose a Shipment ID and the page returns all 16 stored fields for that consignment.
- 1,000-row auto-expand – pivots, slicers and formulas already cover rows 2 to 1001, so pasting new shipments updates the whole file with no re-ranging.
What’s Inside the Shipping Dashboard in Google Sheets
Overview – network-wide freight performance
The landing page answers “what did shipping cost us and did it arrive?” Four KPI cards carry Total Freight Spend ($740,310), Total Shipments (500), Total Weight in kg (3,182,820) and Average Cost per Shipment ($1,481). Below them sit a Monthly Freight Spend column chart, a Freight Cost by Carrier treemap and a Transit Time Distribution histogram. The sidebar holds a Shipping Snapshot, a Top 5 Carriers by Spend table led by SwiftHaul at $147,452, a Shipment Status Mix bar list (Delivered 71.0%, In Transit 16.2%, Delayed 6.6%, Returned 2.4%) and an At a Glance panel splitting spend across air, ocean, road and rail.

Carriers – carrier, mode and service level performance
This page separates who moved the freight from how it moved. KPI cards show Air Freight Spend ($186,438), Ocean Freight Spend ($214,122), Express Shipments (107) and Average Cost per KG ($0.23). Freight Spend by Carrier ranks all eight providers, a Freight Spend by Mode donut splits rail 40.5%, ocean 28.9%, air 25.2% and road 5.4%, and Shipments by Service Level counts standard, economy, express, priority and next-day volumes. A stacked Freight Spend by Carrier and Mode chart plus a Shipped Weight vs Freight Cost scatter finish the page.

Lanes – lane, hub and destination analysis
The geography view. Lanes Served (8), Average Transit Days (12.3), Longest Transit (58) and Delayed Shipments (33) head the page. Freight Spend by Lane ranks the eight trade lanes, Hub Spend vs Shipments overlays a count line on spend columns for Chicago, Dubai, Hamburg, Los Angeles, Mumbai, Rotterdam, Shanghai and Singapore, and Transit Days by Month shows the seasonal shape as a stepped area. Shipments by Destination Country, Monthly Shipment Volume and a stacked Freight Spend by Lane and Mode chart sit underneath.

Customers – customer, service level and delivery quality
Active Customers (12), Spend per Customer ($61,693), Delivered Shipments (355) and Return Rate (2.4%) open the page. Freight Spend by Customer ranks all twelve accounts, a Freight Spend by Service Level donut shows where the money goes, Shipments by Status counts cancelled, delayed, delivered, in-transit and returned consignments, and Monthly Freight Spend tracks the trend as a line. The sidebar adds a Top 5 Customers table and a Service Level Share list.

Search – look up any shipment by ID
Pick a Shipment ID from the dropdown and the page returns the full record: ship date, origin hub, destination country, carrier, mode, service level, freight cost, weight, transit days, customer, lane, status, package type, month and quarter. This is the page you open when a customer calls about one consignment.

Instructions – how the dashboard works
A ten-point guide covering where the pivot tables are parked, how slicers behave per page, which figures are deliberately unfiltered, how to swap in your own data, how the 1,000-row auto-expand works and how to change the colour theme in one place.

Data and List sheets
The Data sheet holds the 500 sample shipments in 16 columns. Replace the rows, keep the headers, and every pivot, slicer and chart keeps working. Dropdown values live on their own list sheet so carriers, modes and service levels stay consistent.

Who This Template Is For – and Who It’s Not For
It is a good fit if you are a logistics or supply-chain manager reviewing freight spend monthly, a 3PL or freight forwarder reporting carrier and lane performance to clients, an ecommerce operations lead watching shipping cost per order, a finance analyst reconciling carrier invoices, or a consultant who needs a presentable freight review deck without buying software.
It is not for you if you need live carrier API tracking, automatic EDI 214 status updates, rate shopping and booking, customs documentation, or a full transport management system of record. This is an analysis and reporting layer over data you already export – it does not move freight or talk to carriers.
How to Use the Shipping Dashboard in Google Sheets
- Open the PDF in your download and click the Make a copy link. The dashboard lands in your own Google Drive.
- Read the Instructions page once. It tells you where the pivot tables are parked and which figures are unfiltered by design.
- Go to the Data sheet, delete the 500 sample rows and paste your own shipments. Keep the 16 column headers exactly as they are.
- Update the dropdown lists so carrier, mode, service level, status and package type match your own naming.
- Return to Overview and click through the slicers. Every chart, pivot and Top 5 table on that page refilters together.
- Use the Carriers page for rate negotiations, the Lanes page for network and hub decisions and the Customers page for account reviews.
- Use the Search page when someone asks about a single consignment.
- Recolour the whole file by editing the palette block described on the Instructions page.
- Share the sheet with your team using Google’s normal sharing link, or File then Download as PDF for a board pack.
Real-World Use Cases
Priya, freight forwarding operations manager. Every month she exports shipment records from her TMS, pastes them into the Data sheet and takes the Carriers page into her rate review. Seeing that rail carries 40.5% of spend while air carries 25.2% on a quarter of the tonnage gave her the argument to shift two lanes to intermodal.
Daniel, ecommerce fulfilment lead. He watches average cost per shipment and return rate week to week. When the Customers page showed the return rate creeping past 2.4% for one account, he traced it to a package type on the Search page and changed the carton spec.
Aisha, supply-chain consultant. She copies the file once per client, drops in 12 months of shipment history and delivers the Lanes page as the centrepiece of a network review – hub spend against shipment count on one chart, without buying a licence for each engagement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need any add-ons, scripts or macros to use this?
No. The dashboard is plain Google Sheets – pivot tables, slicers, charts and formulas. There is nothing to authorise and nothing to install. Only if you want to go beyond 1,000 data rows do you open the Apps Script file, raise the row constant and re-run it.
How many shipments can it handle?
Out of the box every pivot, slicer and formula covers 1,000 data rows, so you can paste up to row 1001 and everything updates on its own. Larger logs are supported by raising the DATA_ROWS setting described on the Instructions page.
Why do some numbers not change when I click a slicer?
That is deliberate and documented. The KPI cards, the At a Glance list and the Overview carrier treemap use SUMIFS and COUNTIFS against the Data sheet, so they always show unfiltered totals as a reference point. The charts, the pivots and the Top 5 panels are slicer-aware.
Can I change the colours to match our brand?
Yes. The design uses one contrast pair – a forest ink and a lime accent – plus an amber for second chart series. The Instructions page tells you which palette block to edit so the whole file recolours at once.
Will it work in Microsoft Excel?
This build is made for Google Sheets and uses Sheets-native slicers, which Excel does not import cleanly. If you need an Excel or Power BI version of a freight dashboard, browse the Logistics Automation Dashboard in Excel or the Last-mile Delivery Dashboard in Power BI.
What exactly do I receive after payment?
A PDF containing the Make a copy link for the Google Sheet, plus a short setup note. Click the link, the file copies into your own Drive, and it is yours to edit and keep. Download access does not expire.
Is there a refund if it is not what I expected?
Yes. Every NextGenTemplates purchase is covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee.
