Robo-Advisors KPI Dashboard in Excel is a ready-to-use monthly KPI scorecard for a digital advice business. It is the reporting layer that sits on top of whatever platform you already run: you type this month’s actual, target and prior-year numbers into three input sheets, and the whole scorecard, the trend page and the analysis page recalculate from a single month dropdown.
This is the scorecard product – a governance-style KPI review pack with traffic lights, a KPI Trend page and a KPI Analysis page. It is deliberately not the analytical, chart-heavy dashboard line; if you want slicers, pivot charts and transaction-level drilldown, that is a different template (see the related products at the end).

Key Features
- One month dropdown drives everything. Cell D6 on KPI Dashboard holds the twelve months of your reporting year. Change it and the scorecard, the summary cards and the whole KPI Analysis page re-read from the input sheets.
- 13 KPIs in 6 groups. Growth & Scale (3), Client Acquisition (2), Client Experience (2), Portfolio Management (3), Risk & Compliance (2) and Platform Reliability (1).
- MTD and YTD side by side. Each KPI row shows Actual, Target, Achievement %, Status, Prior Year and vs PY – once for the selected month and again for the year to date.
- Direction-aware scoring. Every KPI is flagged UTB (Upper The Better) or LTB (Lower The Better) on the definition sheet. Achievement is Actual / Target for UTB and Target / Actual for LTB, so beating a cycle-time or exception-rate target scores above 100% instead of looking like a miss.
- Traffic-light status you control. On Target from 100%, At Risk 95-99%, Missed below 95%. The thresholds live in the formulas in columns L and U on KPI Dashboard – edit them to match your own governance.
- Seven summary cards across the top: Total KPIs Tracked, On Target (YTD), At Risk (YTD), Missed (YTD), Improving vs PY (MTD), Avg Achievement (MTD) and Avg Achievement (YTD). They recount themselves as you add or remove KPIs.
- Add or rename a KPI without touching a formula. The sheets are wired for 22 KPI rows. Type a new KPI on KPI Definition and it flows straight through the three input sheets, the scorecard, the trend page and the analysis page.
- Re-base the year in one cell. Cell E3 on KPI Input – Actual is the first month of the reporting year. Change it and the Target sheet, the Prior Year sheet, the month dropdown and every sheet title follow.
- Nothing to install and nothing to refresh. Plain worksheet formulas only – VLOOKUP, MATCH, INDEX, COUNTIF. Opens in Excel 2013 and later and in Excel for the web.
The 13 KPIs In The File
| KPI Group | KPI | Unit | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Growth & Scale | Assets Under Management | USD M | UTB |
| Growth & Scale | Net New Assets | USD M | UTB |
| Growth & Scale | Funded Account Growth Rate | % | UTB |
| Client Acquisition | Visitor-to-Funded Conversion | % | UTB |
| Client Acquisition | Digital Onboarding Completion | % | UTB |
| Client Experience | 12-Month Client Retention | % | UTB |
| Client Experience | Net Promoter Score | Index | UTB |
| Portfolio Management | Portfolios Within Drift Band | % | UTB |
| Portfolio Management | Rebalance Completion Time | Hours | LTB |
| Portfolio Management | Tax-Loss Harvesting Coverage | % | UTB |
| Risk & Compliance | Trade Exception Rate | % | LTB |
| Risk & Compliance | Suitability Review Compliance | % | UTB |
| Platform Reliability | Platform Availability | % | UTB |
Every KPI carries its own formula text, plain-English definition, owner, priority and frequency on the KPI Definition sheet. All of it is editable text – rename any KPI to your own vocabulary and the rest of the workbook follows.
What You Get – Ten Sheets
1. Home
A navigation page with three groups of buttons – dashboard pages, input sheets and reference – plus a short summary of what the template does.

2. KPI Dashboard
The scorecard itself. Month picker, seven summary cards, and one row per KPI with an MTD block and a YTD block. Arrows show the raw direction against the comparator and their colour shows whether that direction is good for that KPI, which is why a falling cost or cycle time shows a green down-arrow.
3. KPI Trend
One KPI at a time. Pick it in cell B4 and the attribute strip (group, unit, type, owner, priority, frequency), the formula and definition, a twelve-month table and two combo charts all redraw – MTD Trend for Assets Under Management and YTD Trend for Assets Under Management, each plotting actual and prior-year columns against a target line.

4. KPI Analysis
Performance rolled up by KPI group – count of KPIs, On Target, At Risk, Missed and average achievement for MTD and YTD – with an Average YTD Achievement by KPI Group bar chart, plus the top five and bottom five performing KPIs for the year to date. Everything on the page follows the month you picked on the scorecard.

5-7. KPI Input – Actual, Target and PY
The three sheets you actually type in. Each holds an MTD and a YTD column for every month, and the KPI rows on all three are driven by KPI Definition so they always line up. Storing YTD explicitly means you keep full control of how your year-to-date is defined – volumes accumulate, while rates, ratios and indices are running averages.

8. KPI Definition
The master list every other sheet follows – KPI number, group, name, unit, formula, definition, UTB/LTB type, owner, priority and frequency.
9. Read Me
A one-page explanation of how the workbook is wired: the five-minute setup, the rules the numbers follow, how to add, rename or remove a KPI, and a sheet-by-sheet map.

Scorecard Or Analytical Dashboard – Which One Do You Want?
| This template (KPI scorecard) | An analytical dashboard | |
|---|---|---|
| Question it answers | Did we hit target this month and year to date? | What is happening inside the data? |
| Data you supply | One number per KPI per month (actual, target, prior year) | A transaction-level table |
| Main control | A month dropdown | Slicers and filters |
| Output | Traffic-light scorecard, trend page, group roll-up | Charts, pivots and drilldown |
| Typical use | Monthly management or board review pack | Ad-hoc analysis |
| Engine | Worksheet formulas only | Usually pivot tables or a data model |
How To Use It
- Open the workbook and read the Read Me sheet – it is a single page.
- Set your reporting year in cell E3 on KPI Input – Actual. Every other sheet re-bases automatically.
- Edit KPI Definition so the KPI names, units, UTB/LTB flags, owners and definitions are yours. Clear a row to drop a KPI; fill the next empty row to add one.
- Replace the sample numbers on KPI Input – Actual, – Target and – PY, month by month, MTD and YTD.
- Go to KPI Dashboard, pick the month in cell D6 and read the scorecard.
- Adjust the On Target / At Risk / Missed thresholds in the formulas in columns L and U if your governance uses different bands.
- Use KPI Trend for a single-KPI deep dive and KPI Analysis for the group roll-up and the top and bottom five.
Who It Is For
- Operators and founders of robo-advisory, digital-advice and hybrid-advice businesses who need a monthly KPI pack
- Heads of growth, client experience, portfolio operations and platform engineering reporting into a monthly review
- Chiefs of staff and business analysts who assemble the board or management pack
- Consultants and fractional CFOs who need a clean scorecard to hand a wealth-tech client
- Anyone who wants a KPI scorecard that opens in plain Excel with no add-ins and no refresh step
What This Template Is Not
Please read this before buying. It is a spreadsheet for reporting numbers you supply.
- It is not investment advice and does not recommend, evaluate or select any investment, portfolio, allocation or product.
- It is not a portfolio management, trading, rebalancing, custody or order-routing system. It does not connect to a brokerage, a custodian, a market-data feed or any advisory platform.
- It does not calculate investment performance. It does not compute returns, time-weighted or money-weighted, and it is not a GIPS-compliant performance report.
- It does not make your firm compliant with anything and produces no regulatory filing or record. It has no connection to the SEC, FINRA, SIPC, the FCA, SEBI, MiFID II, Form ADV, Regulation Best Interest, fiduciary duty, books-and-records rules, best-execution obligations, or AML/KYC programmes.
- The KPI named Suitability Review Compliance is a renameable label over a percentage you type in yourself. It evidences nothing on its own and does not perform, document or validate a suitability assessment.
- It contains no client, account or personal data, and it is not designed to hold any. Keep it at aggregate KPI level.
- Every number in the file is sample demo data written to make the formulas visible. The targets, thresholds and owners are placeholders, not benchmarks or recommendations, and no figure in it describes any real firm.
Two Things To Know About This Build
We would rather tell you than have you find them:
- The Home page and the Read Me sheet both say the file has 14 KPIs. It actually ships 13 – which is what the scorecard’s own “Total KPIs Tracked” card correctly reports. It is a stale label, not a missing KPI, and you can retype it.
- The Read Me sheet’s note on cumulative versus average YTD illustrates the point with aerospace examples (“aircraft deliveries, non-conformance reports”) left over from the template family. The rule it describes is correct and applies here; only the examples are off-topic.
Neither affects a single formula or number in the workbook, and both are plain editable text.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this give investment advice or make my firm compliant?
No – to both. It is a spreadsheet that displays KPI numbers you type in. It gives no advice, evaluates no investment, satisfies no regulatory requirement and produces no filing or record for any regulator.
Is this the scorecard or the analytical dashboard?
The scorecard. Month picker, traffic lights, MTD and YTD columns, a KPI Trend page and a KPI Analysis page. If you want slicers and transaction-level charts, that is our analytical dashboard line – a different product, not a newer version of this one.
Do I have to use these 13 KPIs?
No. KPI Definition is the master list. Rename, clear or add rows there and the input sheets, the scorecard, the trend page and the analysis page all follow. No formula editing is needed up to 22 KPIs.
Does it connect to my advisory platform, custodian or CRM?
No. There is no connector, no API and no query. You enter the monthly numbers by hand or paste them in, which is exactly why it opens anywhere with no refresh step.
Why does a lower-is-better KPI show above 100%?
Because achievement is direction-aware. For an LTB KPI such as Rebalance Completion Time or Trade Exception Rate the formula is Target / Actual, so beating the target scores above 100% just as beating a growth target does.
Can I change the On Target / At Risk / Missed bands?
Yes. They are 100%, 95-99% and below 95% by default, written into the formulas in columns L and U on KPI Dashboard. Edit them there.
Can I use more than 12 months or more than 22 KPIs?
Yes. Select the last data row on each sheet and fill down, then widen the ranges in the summary cards on row 4 of KPI Dashboard and in the helper columns on the Support sheet.
Is the sample data real?
No. It is invented demo data so you can see every formula, chart and traffic light working before you replace it. It describes no real firm and is not a benchmark.
Can I rebrand it?
Yes. Nothing is locked. Change colours, fonts, the title banner and the logo as you like.
