The Plumbing Business KPI Dashboard in Power BI puts 14 plumbing KPIs on one scored page. Pick a month and every KPI lands with its actual, its target, an achievement percentage, a traffic light and a year-on-year arrow – MTD and YTD side by side. The sample file ships December 2025 data: 14 KPIs, 7 on target, 3 at risk, 4 missed, 98.7% achievement for the month. Four report pages, two hover tooltip pages, five synced slicers, 38 DAX measures behind the visuals and an Excel data pack you fill in yourself. Native Power BI visuals only – nothing to install, nothing locked, no subscription. Open it in the free Power BI Desktop, swap the sample numbers for yours, hit Refresh. Plumbing Business KPI Dashboard in Power BI

This is the KPI scorecard line, not an analytical dashboard. It answers “did we hit target this month, and which KPI is furthest off?” If you want revenue by job type, technician league tables and job-level slicing, that is the Plumbing Contractor Dashboard in Power BI – a different file with a different model. Many shops run both.
Key Features of the Plumbing Business KPI Dashboard in Power BI
- 14 KPIs across 9 groups – Service Delivery, Service Quality, Revenue, Sales, Financial, Workforce, Operations, Customer and Safety.
- Five synced slicers – Month, KPI Group, Owner, Priority and Direction. Filter to one owner or to your Critical KPIs and the whole page follows.
- Five summary cards – Total KPIs, MTD Target Met, MTD At Risk, MTD Target Missed and Achievement MTD, each with a month-on-month delta and a 12-month sparkline.
- Worst-first sorting – the scorecard table sorts ascending on Achievement % (MTD), so the KPI in most trouble is the first row you read.
- Direction-aware scoring – UTB and LTB per KPI, so beating a cost or response-time target scores above 100% instead of looking like a miss.
- Traffic lights you control – On Target at 100%+, At Risk from 95% to 100%, Missed below 95%. The cut-offs are DAX you can edit.
- Prior-year comparison built in – a YoY arrow on every scorecard row, and PY lines on both trend charts.
- Two hover tooltip pages – KPI Detail and Trend Detail, 280×360, hidden in view mode and surfaced on hover.
- Add or rename KPIs by typing – nothing in the report hard-codes a KPI name. Add a row to the data pack and refresh.
- Native visuals, custom theme – cards, tables, line charts, bar charts and slicers only. No AppSource visuals, no gateway, no Power BI Pro licence needed to open it. Plumbing Business KPI Dashboard in Power BI
What’s Inside the Plumbing Business KPI Dashboard in Power BI
The download is a ZIP holding three files: the .pbix report, Data.xlsx (the data pack the report reads) and a Power BI Dashboard user manual PDF.
Page 1 – KPI Scorecard. The five slicers sit across the top, then the five summary cards, then the full scorecard table: KPI Name, KPI Group, Unit, a 12M Trend sparkline, Actual (MTD), Target (MTD), Achievement % (MTD), Status Light (MTD), YoY Arrow (MTD), Actual (YTD), Achievement % (YTD) and Status Light (YTD).

Page 2 – KPI Trend. A radio list of all 14 KPI names down the left. Pick one and six context cards (Group, Unit, Direction, Owner, Priority) plus five value cards (Actual MTD, Target MTD, Achievement % MTD, Status, YoY % MTD) redraw, above two line charts: CY MTD vs PY MTD vs Target MTD by Month and CY YTD vs PY YTD vs Target YTD by Month.
Page 3 – KPI Definition. The same KPI choice, reached by a dropdown that is synced with page 2 rather than a drillthrough – pick a KPI on either page and both agree. It shows the formula, the plain-English definition, owner, priority and a 12-month bar trend, then a Monthly Detail table (twelve rows plus a total) and two more charts: MTD Actual vs Target by Month and Achievement % by Month.
Page 4 – Get More Templates. An in-file catalogue page: other NextGenTemplates Power BI reports, our services, a short “Using and Customising This Template” crib sheet and contact details. It is a marketing page, not a data page – delete it in Power BI Desktop if you are handing the file to a client.
Data.xlsx has four sheets: Read Me, Input_ Target (168 rows – one per KPI per month), Input_ Actual (336 rows – the reporting year and the prior year) and KPI Definition (14 rows × 9 columns: group, name, unit, formula, definition, UTB/LTB type, owner, priority).

Who This Template Is For – and Who It’s Not For
It fits an owner or operations manager of a residential and light-commercial plumbing business running roughly 5 to 60 technicians, who already pulls monthly numbers out of a job system or a spreadsheet and wants one scored page to open in the monthly review. It fits a finance controller who wants DSO and gross margin sitting next to first-time fix rate instead of in a separate report. It fits anyone teaching Power BI who wants a clean, readable KPI model to take apart.
It does not fit you if you want the file to pull numbers by itself. It has no live connector: it reads Data.xlsx and nothing else. It is not accounting or invoicing software – it raises no invoice, posts nothing to a ledger and reconciles nothing. It does no dispatch or scheduling – it never assigns a technician, books a slot or routes a van. And it does not check compliance of any kind: no licence or permit tracking, no backflow-prevention certification records, no apprenticeship-hour logging, no plumbing-code checks. The Safety Incident Rate (TRIR) KPI is a number you type in; the file performs no OSHA calculation and no recordkeeping, so that row evidences nothing about your safety programme. The same is true of every safety-sounding figure here.
How to Use the Plumbing Business KPI Dashboard in Power BI
- Unzip the download and keep the .pbix and Data.xlsx in the same folder.
- Open the .pbix in Power BI Desktop (free from Microsoft) and look around the shipped December 2025 sample.
- Open Data.xlsx. On KPI Definition, rename, delete or add KPIs – set Type to UTB (higher is better) or LTB (lower is better), and put in your own owner and priority.
- Fill Input_ Target and Input_ Actual, one row per KPI per month. Actuals need the prior year too, because that is what every PY and YoY figure reads from.
- Back in Power BI Desktop press Home > Refresh. Moved the folder? Transform data > Data source settings > Change Source.
- Optional: edit the threshold numbers in the Status Light measures, recolour through the custom theme in one place, and delete the Get More Templates page before you share the file.
Real-World Use Cases
Dave, owner of a 14-van plumbing and drainage firm. Dave closes the month, types twelve numbers into Data.xlsx, refreshes, and opens the scorecard in his Monday operations meeting. The table sorts worst first, so the conversation starts on the four missed KPIs instead of the seven good ones.
Priya, finance controller for a three-branch plumbing group. Priya filters the Owner slicer to Finance Controller and gets Days Sales Outstanding, Gross Margin per Job and Service Revenue on their own, MTD against YTD, with last year’s line on the chart.
Marcus, service manager. Marcus sets the Priority slicer to Critical and watches five KPIs – callback rate, first-time fix, emergency response time, service revenue and safety incident rate. He uses the KPI Definition page in one-to-ones so everyone reads the same formula.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it connect to ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber or QuickBooks?
No. There is no connector, no API and no sync. The report reads Data.xlsx, which you fill in yourself. If your job system exports monthly totals to Excel you can paste them straight in, but nothing happens automatically.
Does it track licences, permits, backflow certification or apprenticeship hours?
No. There is no compliance module of any kind, and no plumbing-code logic. If you type a compliance-sounding percentage into a KPI row it is displayed as typed and nothing verifies it.
Do I need a Power BI Pro licence?
Not to open, edit or use the file. Power BI Desktop is free. You only need Pro or Premium if you want to publish it to the Power BI Service and share it with colleagues.
Can I change the 14 KPIs to my own?
Yes, and that is the intended use. Nothing in the report hard-codes a KPI name – every card, chart and table follows whatever rows exist in the three data sheets. Rename a KPI in all three sheets and refresh.
Why does a lower-is-better KPI score above 100%?
Because scoring is direction-aware. UTB KPIs score Actual / Target; LTB KPIs score Target / Actual. Coming in under a cost or response-time target is a win, so it reads above 100% rather than looking like a shortfall. Plumbing Business KPI Dashboard in Power BI
Is the sample data real?
No. The December 2025 figures are fictional sample values built to exercise every visual. Replace them before you show the file to anyone.
How is this different from the Plumbing Contractor Dashboard in Power BI?
That one is an analytical dashboard – it slices jobs, revenue and technicians many ways. This one is a scorecard: fixed KPIs, fixed targets, one verdict per month. Different question, different file. Plumbing Business KPI Dashboard in Power BI
