The Carbon Trading Dashboard in Power BI is a ready-made reporting layout for a desk that already keeps a record of its carbon credit trades in a spreadsheet. You paste your own trade log into the supplied data sheet, refresh, and the five report pages redraw around your numbers – what was traded, what it realised per tonne, what it cost to source, how much of the book was retired rather than resold, and how quickly trades settled.
It is built as a Power BI Desktop file (.pbix) with an import-mode data model, a proper date table, and 43 DAX measures already written. Nothing here is a market data service. Every value shown – price per tonne, acquisition cost, trade value, margin, credits retired, verification score – is a field you enter yourself in the workbook. The file ships with 500 rows of invented demo data so you can see the layout working before you touch it; that demo data is illustrative only and does not represent any real market, registry, project or counterparty.

Page 4 – Credit Quality & Offsets
Your recorded verification scores, how much of the book was retired against the client emissions figure you entered, and the credits that expired before anyone used them. The Verification Score card shows a 1-to-5 star rating – that score is a number you type in yourself for each trade line, a field for whatever internal grading your desk already uses. It is not a rating issued by NextGenTemplates, by any registry, or by any standards body, and it is not a judgement on any credit.

Every trader ranked on turnover and margin, how quickly trades settled, and who was on the other side of the book. Cards cover Value / Trader, Settlement Rate, Settlement Days, Cancellation Rate and Brokerage Fees, with Trade Value & Margin Rate by Trader, Trade Value by Counterparty Type and a seven-row Trader Scorecard. The trader names in the demo file are invented.

How to Use It
- Open the .pbix in Power BI Desktop (the free version is enough).
- Open Data.xlsx and replace the 500 demo rows with your own trade records, keeping the 20 column headers exactly as they are.
- In Power BI Desktop, point the query at your copy of the workbook (Transform data > Data source settings) and hit Refresh.
- Every card, chart and scorecard redraws from your numbers. Nothing needs rewriting.
- Rename measures, change the colour theme or remove pages you do not need.

- It does not connect to Verra, Gold Standard, the American Carbon Registry, the Climate Action Reserve, the CDM or any other registry, and it cannot check that a serial number, retirement or credit is valid.
- It makes no assessment of offset quality, additionality, permanence or leakage.
- It does not measure or verify emissions and is not an MRV, verification or assurance tool.
- It does not establish compliance with the EU ETS, UK ETS, CORSIA, Article 6, RGGI, the California Cap-and-Trade Program or any other scheme, and it is not a submission or surrender tool.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this make my carbon trading compliant, or is it trading advice?
No – to both. It is a reporting template that charts numbers you have already recorded. It gives no trading, investment, hedging or price advice, never suggests when to buy or sell, and does nothing to establish compliance with the EU ETS, UK ETS, CORSIA, Article 6, RGGI, the California programme or any other scheme. Compliance and trading decisions stay with you and your advisers.
Where do the prices come from – is there a live market feed?
There is none. Price Per Tonne, Trade Value, Acquisition Cost, Brokerage Fee and every derived margin figure are columns you fill in from your own records. The dashboard arithmetic is only ever as good as what you enter.
Is the sample data real?
No. All 500 rows are invented demo data, including the registry names, project types, trader names, prices and verification scores. They exist so the layout renders before you load anything. Delete them as your first step.
Does it connect to Verra, Gold Standard or any other registry?
No. There is no registry integration and no serial-number lookup. The registry column is simply a text label you type, and the dashboard cannot confirm that any credit, retirement or serial is genuine.
What is the Verification Score?
A 1-to-5 number you enter yourself on each trade line – a slot for whatever internal grading your desk already keeps. It is not issued or endorsed by NextGenTemplates, any registry or any standards body, and it says nothing about the quality of a credit.
Do I need a Power BI licence?
Power BI Desktop is free and enough to open, edit and use the file. A Power BI Pro or Premium licence is only needed if you want to publish and share it through the Power BI Service.
Can I add my own columns or pages?
Yes. The model is unlocked. Add columns to the workbook, write your own DAX, restyle the theme, or delete pages – including the Get More Dashboards catalogue page.
Can I use it for compliance and voluntary credits together?
Yes – Market Type is one of the columns, and page 3 splits compliance against voluntary value by region. That is a labelling and reporting split you define, not a regulatory classification.
How many rows can it handle?
The demo file carries 500 rows; Power BI’s import engine handles far more comfortably. Very large trade logs are better sourced from a database than a workbook, which you can repoint the query to.
