Who This Template Is For — and Who It’s Not For
A good fit for the owner or operations manager of a small to mid-size concrete or flatwork contractor who already has the numbers — monthly revenue, cubic yards, crew hours, slump-test results, incident counts — sitting in an accounting package, a job-cost sheet or a superintendent’s notebook, and who wants one monthly page showing whether each is on target and how it compares with last year. It suits a business reporting monthly to an owner, a board or a bonding agent.
Not a fit if you need live job costing, pour scheduling, daily field logs, batch-ticket capture or crew time clocks — this template does none of that, and connects to no system. It is also the wrong tool if you need per-project drilldown: it reports one company-level number per KPI per month, not a breakdown by job.
A note about the Quality and Safety KPIs. Slump Test Pass Rate, Rework Rate, Recordable Incident Rate and Safety Training Compliance are numbers you type in. This workbook is not a testing laboratory and is not a compliance or certification tool. It does not perform, witness or validate any test, it carries no certification against IS 456, ASTM C39, EN 206, BS 8500 or any other standard, it does not validate a mix design, and it does not read a batching plant, a weighbridge or a testing lab system. A green traffic light here evidences nothing about the concrete you placed — it reflects only the figure that was entered. Your certificates, test reports and OSHA logs remain your record of truth.
How to Use the Concrete Contractor KPI Dashboard in Google Sheets
- Make your copy. Open the PDF in your download and click the “Make a copy” link. The sheet lands in your own Google Drive.
- Set the reporting year. Cell E3 on the KPI Input – Actual sheet is the first month of the reporting year. Change it and the whole workbook re-bases.
- Review the KPI list. Open KPI Definition and edit the 13 rows into your own language. Keep the Type column honest — any cost, rate or injury measure must stay LTB or its traffic light will invert.
- Enter your numbers. Fill the yellow MTD cells on KPI Input – Actual, then KPI Input – Target, then KPI Input – PY. Last year’s figures are what make the vs PY column work.
- Pick a month. Use the Select Month dropdown on KPI Dashboard. The scorecard, the header cards and the KPI Analysis page all follow it.
- Work the exceptions. Read Bottom 5 Performing KPIs on KPI Analysis, then open KPI Trend for each one to see whether it is a bad month or a twelve-month slide.
- Share it. Share the sheet read-only with your foremen and estimator, and give edit rights only to whoever owns the input sheets.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the KPI Dashboard or the KPI Scorecard? They sound identical.
They are two different products, and both exist for concrete contractors. This is the KPI Dashboard — the month-picker scorecard with MTD and YTD side by side, a per-KPI Trend page and a KPI Analysis roll-up. The Concrete Contractor KPI Scorecard in Google Sheets is a separate template from a different production line, with its own layout and its own KPI set. Buy this one if you want the month dropdown, the trend page and the group analysis.
What exactly do I download?
A PDF. It contains the “Make a copy” link that creates your own editable Google Sheets copy. There is no .xlsx and no .zip — the sheet itself lives in Google Drive.
Does it connect to my batching plant, weighbridge or accounting system?
No. Every figure is typed in by hand on the three input sheets. There is no integration, no import and no API.
Can I add or remove KPIs?
Yes. The KPI Definition sheet is the master list — add, rename, re-group or re-type a row and the KPI Dashboard, KPI Trend and KPI Analysis pages all follow it without any formula edits.
Why do some KPIs score above 100% when the number went down?
Because they are Lower-The-Better. Cost Per Cubic Yard Placed, Rework Rate and Recordable Incident Rate use Target ÷ Actual, so beating the target scores above 100%. Ten of the 13 KPIs are Upper-The-Better and use Actual ÷ Target. If you add a cost or defect KPI of your own, set its Type to LTB or the traffic light will read backwards.
Can I change the On Target / At Risk / Missed thresholds?
Yes. They are 100% and above, 95% to 99%, and below 95% by default, set in the Status formulas on the KPI Dashboard sheet.
